Wilkes-Barre General Hospital has been recognized with a Chief of Staff Award by Community Health Systems, one of the nation’s leading operators of general acute-care hospitals. The organization’s affiliates include Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and 134 other hospitals in 29 states.
Presented at the organization’s annual Chiefs of Staff meeting, Douglas Coslett, M.D., accepted the award on behalf of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Dr. Coslett is President-elect of the hospital’s Medical Staff and serves as Chairman of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee.
"At Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, we are continuously focused on ways we can build on the quality of care we deliver to patients," said Dr. Coslett. "Our entire team is committed to excellence, and I’m honored to accept this award on their behalf."
In accepting the award, Dr. Coslett noted that Wilkes-Barre General Hospital has demonstrated a commitment to quality as evidenced by continuous improvement in Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Survey (HCAHPS) and Core Measure scores since 2009. "In achieving these outcomes, quality indicators regarding infection rate, medication errors and heart failure readmission rates all surpassed the national average," said Dr. Coslett. "Our medical staff takes great pride in achieving these results," he concluded."
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital CEO Cornelio Catena echoed Dr. Coslett’s remarks. "Our goal is to provide quality, personalized care for our patients," said Mr. Catena. "Our excellent medical staff, nurses and other clinicians are continually investigating new opportunities to enhance our healing environment and delivery of quality care."
