Overview
Established in 1970, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital/University of Scranton School of Nurse Anesthesia is a 25-month program which received a full 10-year accreditation in 2002 by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). In 1999, an affiliation was formed with University of Scranton to offer students either a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a concentration in nurse anesthesia or a Post-Master's Certificate in nurse anesthesia.
During the course of this comprehensive program, students benefit from a variety of clinical experiences at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and at a number of nearby clinical sites. Specifically, they learn how to provide anesthesia to a broad patient population, including acutely ill neurologic, cardiac, vascular, thoracic, obstetric, pediatric and general surgery patients.
